Scope of Inspections

The Scope of Inspection function consist of six metrics:

1. Count of line items inspected - number of discrete line items inspected as a function of time.

2. Weight of line items inspected - total relative importance assigned to the discrete line items inspected as a function of time.

3. Line items without QA Plans - line items that have an assigned relative importance but do not have a complete QA Plan and thus will never be inspected.

4. Line items with inactive QA Plans - line items that have an assigned relative importance but who's QA Plan is inactive and thus will not appear on the Inspection Schedule or who's results may not be included in the Quality Analyst.

5. Count Percentage Gauge - graphic display of the percentage of the discrete line items inspected within the designated time period selected for the entire project and one selected functional section.

6. Weight Percentage Gauge - graphic display of the percentage of the discrete relative importance of the line items inspected within the designated time period selected for the entire project and one selected functional section.

These metrics provide a comprehensive view of the scope of the project that has been inspected in the designated time period.

The above shows the filtering options available to generate the charts data.

Count Chart

SOI2.jpg

The above shows the trend of inspections conducted. Ideally, the number of inspections should be reasonably steady over time, spikes in the number of inspections could indicate that performance measurement is not collecting data consistently and the quality metrics could not represent the on-going performance as predictably as desired.

Weight Chart

SOI3.jpg

The above shows the trend of the weight (relative importance) of the inspections conducted. Ideally, the weight of inspections should be reasonably steady over time, spikes in the weight of inspections could indicate that performance measurement is not collecting data consistently and the quality metrics could not represent the on-going performance as predictably as desired.

Line Items (LIs) without QA Plan/LIs with inactive QA Plans

SOI4.jpg

The above shows line items that are not being included in the data. These line items should be considered for deletion if they are not required. If required, they should be edited so that they will be included in the scope of the inspections performed. A management decision could be made that these items are not worthy of the time required to inspect (may be necessary to optimize the utilization of inspector resources). The graphical metrics below cannot reach 100% if there are line items in either of these categories.

Count Percentage Gauge/Weight Percentage Gauge

SOI6.jpg
The above shows the total percentage of the count or weight (relative importance) of the line items being inspected. The entire project can be contrasted to a single function section.
